Greater Protection with a Water Filtration System

By John Richards

Using chlorine in water treatment plants has a number of concerns. Not only does it lead to an unpleasant chemical taste in water, it also has adverse affects on the health of individuals. There are many reasons why you need to provide protection to your family from a water filtration system.

Heavy handed use of chlorine in treatment plants can cause a dangerous build up of toxins known as organochlorines. These can have many negative impacts upon health, including exacerbating skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis.

There is also a correlation between the presence of organochlorines in the mains supply and the incidence of certain gastrointestinal cancers and some skin cancers. While, as yet, this link is to be conclusively proven there is enough evidence to cause concern. High levels of organochlorines can also affect fetal development at critical stages and it is believed they can cause miscarriages.

There can certainly be higher standards of living when people have access to clean and purified water. No one can deny the benefits of treatment plants for the protection of public health. However, there are concerns regarding heavy use of chlorine in the water treatment plants, especially when it is not even necessary to use such a high amount.

As chlorine is an effective disinfectant, it can be used to kill many dangerous microbes found in open lakes, rivers and reservoirs. However, the down side of this is the reaction that takes place between chlorine and organic particles that results in formation of organochlorines. It then becomes difficult to make a choice between water treatment and toxic chemical compounds. A prudent choice is to ensure purification of main supply of water in order to provide protection against harmful health impacts of chlorination.

Filtration has a number of advantages for the users. Installing a filter at the tap for drinking water is great, but it is also a good idea to have it connected to the main supply so that there can be filtered water available when you bathe or shower. This is important because contaminants can get absorbed as well as inhaled from steam.

Water filter units can easily be fitted to the incoming supply pipe so that there can be pure water for the entire home. There are three stage systems available equipped with ionizers so that chlorine, heavy metals and sediments can be filtered out and there is softer water.

People often report a marked improvement in skin conditions once they begin to use a filtered supply in their homes. It can also help to reduce the build up of plaque on teeth. Families can have confidence in the purity and long term safety of their supply.

There are, however, many other benefits. Tea, coffee and diluted juices all taste much better thanks to the softening effect of an ionizer. Softening also prevents the accumulation of lime scale deposits on appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers and kettles. This increases their life span and maintains effectiveness. In the long term, purification units could save money.

So, if you are worried about organochlorines and its adverse effects, install a water filtration system and have a more protected life. Soft and clean water provides a number of benefits for home owners. The most important of these is the peace of mind they can have.
