They are important to human beings because of their medicinal value, health benefits, nutritional value and culinary uses.

Although they have been used for centuries there was little scientific research that had been conducted in this field. Recent studies have exposed their multiple detoxification effects and health effects that have been hidden for a long time. They have become useful in homes, hospitals and many other places. They consist of nutrients, antioxidants, essential oils and other nutrients that occur in plants. These nutrients fight harmful germs and toxins and improve the level of immunity.

Antioxidants protect the body cells against damage by free radicals produced during digestion and arising due to exposure to radiation and tobacco in the environment. . Antioxidants provide protection against cancer, heart disease and other diseases.

Nutritionists and chefs are encouraging individuals to include culinary herbs in dishes for to achieve a spicy taste and flavor. They contain anti-microbial elements which fight any harmful bacteria in the food and prevent potential infections. Healthy herbs form a major component of recipes. They are used to prepare soups, vegetables, herbal sauces, fruit salads are also a major source of flavor drinks. The richness of herbal plants and spices in antioxidants makes food healthier for consumption.

They are widely used to facilitate weight loss. Healthy herbs stimulate metabolism, promote satiety, help in weight management and improve the quality of our diet. Spices manufactured from these plants such as peppers which contain capsaicin are major metabolic boosters. These spices contain fewer calories and their consumption has less risk to our body.

Healthy herbs are commonly used as substitutes for pharmaceutical drugs. They work gradually in the body and have minimal side effects. They give the body enough time to adapt to the changes caused. The compounds are antiseptic, aphrodisiac, analgesic and lypolytic. Pharmaceutical drugs also lack dietary vitamins to promote body health
