Low Carb Diet Tips

By James Steele

Just because it's not full of heavy carbohydrates doesn't mean it's going to taste bad. In fact, most of the foods you love the most probably don't have a lot of carbs at all: fresh fruit, a good steak, etc. If you can keep your diet well balanced and low carb you can still enjoy your chocolate cake once in a while too. Sticking to a low carb diet isn't hard. Most of the time it just involves finding a low carb substitute for the higher carb food that you've been eating. In this article we will give you three tips to help you make this easier.

Salads are a great way to eat low carb. During the warm months, salads are especially easy to make and enjoy. For those days when it's too hot to cook, there is nothing quite like a big salad. This meal option can be great even in the cooler months. You can even eat salad for several weeks without having the same one twice because there are so many ways to prepare them.

Using coconut flour is another way to cut down on carbs. You can use the flour made from coconuts in place of both white and wheat flour and it is low in carbs. This will allow you to still enjoy baked goods and other foods made with flour. Refined flour doesn't work as part of a low carb diet. Coconut flour is a great substitute for that. Another bonus is coconut is a nutrient rich food. Coconut water is a popular health drink. Using this flour means you can eat regular breakfast foods and not worry about the carb count.

Instead of using tortillas, use a bowl! While you may have to do more dishes, it's worth it to limit your carb intake, right? Dishes from fajitas to breakfast burritos can be served in bowls or on a plate and they will still taste delicious. Prepare everything the same way you always have but instead of wrapping it up in a tortilla, serve it in bowls.

The only dish this won't really work with is a quesadilla. Nobody would consider a bowl of melted cheese an appetizing meal.

Many people assume that a low carb diet means eating boring food. It's also assumed that they will have to give up the snacks and other foods that they love. But honestly, a low carb diet isn't that different from eating a well balanced diet. You would be surprised by how many low carb alternatives there are to high carb foods. You may be happy to discover that eating low carb won't affect your life much at all. Use these tips to help you make the transition to low carb even easier.
